It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Miss Gladys Williams, a beacon of hope and a tireless advocate for the youth of Melbourne, Florida. Miss Williams, who lived a remarkable life of 80 years, left an indelible mark on the community through her dedication to improving the lives of under-resourced children.

In 1991, Miss Williams, recognizing the myriad challenges faced by young people in her community, founded Club Esteem. She envisioned a safe space where children could receive the support needed to excel academically and make positive life choices. Starting as a weekly meeting at Brothers Park, Club Esteem later moved to Lipscomb Community Center.

Melbourne’s Vice Mayor Yvonne Minus posted on her social media:

I am deeply saddened by this news of such an awesome trailblazer in the South Melbourne community and Brevard County.
Ms. Gladys as she was affectionately known will be missed yet remembered for her great contributions to Club Esteem.
It is my prayer that her family finds peace in the bosom of God knowing that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.

Rest In Peace and take your rest Ms. Gladys.
Godspeed Club Esteem.

Yvonne Minus
Vice Mayor Melbourne

Today, the organization continues to serve numerous children and families through its after-school and summer programs, offering tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities five days a week.

Miss Williams’ compassionate leadership and unwavering belief in the potential of every young person have touched countless lives. Her vision of creating a supportive environment where children could thrive has become a reality, thanks to her efforts and those of her dedicated team and community partners.

The impact of Miss Williams’ work is evident in the success stories of many Club Esteem alumni, who continue to carry forward her legacy of love, hope, and educational excellence. As we mourn her passing, we celebrate her extraordinary life and the lasting difference she made.
