Political, civic, or community experience

Prior to being elected in 2022, I owned and operated a home health agency that specifically worked with developmental disabilities for over 10 years. I am active in my church, The Grove, where you can commonly find me serving in the children’s ministry. Our family proudly helps sponsor and cheer on many different sports activities from little league softball to high school sports teams. Since 2022 I have served 3 out of 4 years as the board member on the Brevard Schools Foundation and am also a mentor to students.

1. Why are you running?

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve District 1 as the school board Member for the last 4 years. In that time we have worked diligently to return Brevard County to an A rated school district. We have seen achievement go up across the board on all academic levels and are proud to report the highest rate of graduation in Brevard Public Schools history has been achieved last year! I am running to protect the progress we have made and build upon it! I want to ensure that parents voices are heard, children are protected and education is the focus of our school district!

2. What are your top three priorities if elected?

1. Bring Brevard to a top 10 school district in Florida
2. Increase enrollment
3. Make sure all District 1 schools are A or B rated.

3. What is the single biggest problem facing the people this office serves, and how would you address it?

Being the parent of a BPS student gives me a unique perspective as not only the elected individual, but also as someone who sees sides of BPS that I wouldn’t otherwise have access to. I believe the biggest problem affecting the people this office serves is lack of communication and the handling of issues in a timely manner. I hear from parents all the time who are frustrated with not hearing from the school until an issue hits critical status. Our schools are in partnership with our families and good partners communicate with each other.

4. How will you keep constituents informed and involved in your decisions?

School board members don’t have any staff other than 1 board Assistant (shared with 5 board members) whose responsibilities center around preparing for the board meetings and workshops. We also don’t have office space to meet with people. I start with these 2 facts because they impact how effective a board member can be and communicate. The responsibilities of an effective board member are a full time job! While we do have a communication department within the district, they don’t target communication with our constituents in our districts. This is an area where an assistant would help board members!

5. Why are you a better choice than your opponents?

I have a proven track record of success over the last 4 years. I was born and raised in Brevard County and graduated from Brevard County Schools. I have owned businesses in Brevard. I own real estate and pay taxes in Brevard. I have a child in Brevard Public Schools. I am a Christian Conservative Republican who has been married to my husband for over 20 years. These are the things that set me apart from my opponent. I truly believe and care about the education our children receive in our schools!

7. Anything else you’d like voters to know?

I look forward to working with the families and staff in District 1 to continue the good work we have been doing! I am always accessible and willing to meet with anyone to discuss any topic around our schools. I love Brevard Public Schools and our amazing staff and cant wait to celebrate Brevard being a top 10 school district in the state!!!
