Political, civic, or community experience

I live a life of service and have over 20 years of community service. I officially launched my nonprofit in 2021 and have been active in North Brevard since moving here in 2017.

1. Why are you running?

I am running because I wholeheartedly believe in the best public education for all students. While the teachers and administrators do wonderful work, I believe in empowering them with the proper tools, finances (salary), facilities and support to provide an even higher level of education to the students of Brevard. We live in a very high technology area in Florida and our students need to be fully prepared to engage with this environment. With Brevard’s A-rated schools scoring only 64% (out of 100%), we can and must do better. Especially in my district, District 1, where only 4 of the 16 schools are A-rated.

2. What are your top three priorities if elected?

My top 3 priorities are 1) wise use of the precious funds entrusted to the school board by the community to raise academic and life readiness performance, 2) raise teacher pay to attract and retain the best talent and 3) involve the whole community in ensuring our students are fully equipped with a bright future. Based on BPS own financials and audits, we need to reverse the trend of debt increases and decreased spending per student instruction dollars year over year. Brevard Public Schools are the largest employer in Brevard County and operate with a budget of over 1.5 billion dollars. The public deserves transparent financial accountability, including an actual CFO, to help drive even better decisions than we have seen in the past.

3. What is the single biggest problem facing the people this office serves, and how would you address it?

The single biggest issue facing our youth and stakeholders is ensuring that as technology changes and advances that our public education system are doing our absolute best to prepare our youth for a bright future where they are empowered and capable to interact with the world around them. Based on a critical review of the BPS budgets, strategic plan and audits, BPS has clearly demonstrated a structural drift away from classroom importance. Instruction spending needs to increase, staff turnover rates need to drop well below 40% and large deficit increases need to be stopped. I will push for a binding instruction spending floor so no less than 55% of general fund expenditures go to direct instruction, address teacher retention crisis with urgency and demand a structured budget plan which will no longer make annual patches to address deficits by transferring funds to cover them up. I will insist BPS reinstate a Chief Financial Officer to guide and direct wise fiduciary responsibility. Our school facilities are aging with 44% of our buildings over 50 years old and I will insist on updating our 2013 Environmental Health and Safety plan to ensure we are addressing keeping our students and staff safe.

4. How will you keep constituents informed and involved in your decisions?

An independent audit of BPS found that the district website is disorganized, Board committee information is hard to find, and legal meeting notices lack detail. In 2025, the board was required to pay over half a million dollars in legal fees to settle a First Amendment lawsuit that found the schoolboard responsible for violating the public’s right to interact with the board. School board meetings should be forums for public input and discussion. I will work to ensure all of these issues are addressed and will maintain an open door with my constituents to ensure their voices are heard.

5. Why are you a better choice than your opponents?

I have over 15 years of experience in academic leadership, as an educator, coaching and positively impacting the community. I currently work at bridging the gap between high school and higher education by working with students in the dual enrollment program, helping them earn college credits while completing their high school diploma. I want to hear from all constituents, not just those I agree with, and will be respectful to all who desire to have input on our education system in Brevard. Most of all, I will advocate to create true financial accountability to all of the taxpayers and others who have invested in our education system while attacking issues with the current schoolboard’s increasing debt, decreasing per student instruction spending, and disinterest in all BPS stakeholders.

6. Is there anything in your past you’d like to address up front, in your own words?

No, I have nothing to hide and welcome all inquiries of my past. I have deep ties to the community I serve, and I am an active volunteer with various organizations like the YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Hummingbird Food Pantry, Titusville Fire Department, BPS, etc. I also started a nonprofit in 2021 that uses the platform of sports to educate our youth and their families on mental health, dental health, addiction prevention, anti-bullying, financial literacy and other imperative life skills. My nonprofit as directly impacted the lives of over 3,000 families in North Brevard and over 100,000 state and nationwide.

7. Anything else you’d like voters to know?

I am fully committed to all students, staff and stakeholders to do the right thing to improve our public education system with transparency and passion. I cannot unilaterally fix all the issues ahead of us but I will ask the right questions and hold leadership publicly accountable when assurances are not kept. My job will be to change the dynamics of the current board and BPS which have repeatedly overspent the budget and not placed instruction as the top priority. I will not accept the status quo and will highly value input from all stakeholders in the process.
