Driftwood says the resort fills a 160-mile gap in Marriott-branded beachfront resorts between Daytona Beach and Hutchinson Island. Upon completion, the company projects it will own roughly 62% of the region's beachfront hotel inventory and about 11% of total hotel inventory.![]()

A 64-year-old Sebastian woman is facing multiple charges after deputies say she fired a gun outside her home while intoxicated Thursday.![]()
The Indian River County Sheriff's Office says Renee Carol Taig-Johnston was arrested after a neighbor called police to report the gunfire and said she appeared drunk.![]()
According to the arrest affidavit, when deputies called her out of the house she came outside without clothing, refused commands, and moved back toward the area where the firearm was believed to have been discarded. Deputies say she only began complying after being hit with pepper-ball rounds.![]()
During a protective sweep, officers reported finding the gun near a bundle of twigs beside the house. The affidavit says one round had been fired, and that Taig-Johnston appeared highly intoxicated and admitted to drinking heavily.![]()
Deputies say she remained combative at the hospital, allegedly kicking someone while being treated and stating she wished officers had used real bullets instead of pepper-ball rounds.![]()
She was charged with felony battery on a law enforcement officer, felony resisting with violence, misdemeanor resisting without violence, disorderly intoxication, discharging a firearm on residential property, and using a firearm while under the influence.![]()

After nearly 30 years on television, Judge Judy is hanging up the robe.![]()
Judy Sheindlin, 83, told People magazine she is stepping away from on-camera work when "Judy Justice" wraps in October. She launched "Judge Judy" in 1996, ran 25 seasons in syndication, and moved to Amazon Prime with "Judy Justice" in 2021.![]()
"I don't want to do hair and makeup anymore, but I still want my message to get out there," she told the outlet.![]()
She is not leaving the courtroom business entirely. Sheindlin is producing a new syndicated court show for her son, Judge Adam Levy, called "Adam's Law," which debuts Monday. Levy earned his law degree from Hofstra in 1992, served two terms as district attorney in Putnam County, New York, and has been a judge on Prime's "Tribunal Justice" since 2023.![]()
"There aren't a lot of people who can carry a half hour on their own, unscripted," Sheindlin said, adding that Levy has what it takes.![]()
As for retirement, she listed afternoon naps and developing "Judyverse," an animated series based on the AI-generated "Baby Judge Judy" videos that have been circulating on social media.![]()
