UPDATE: KISSIMMEE MOM ACCUSED OF LEAVING KIDS ALONE FOR LAS VEGAS TRIP SCOLDED SON FOR CALLING 911, DEPUTIES SAY![]()
New details have emerged in the case of the Kissimmee mother accused of leaving her four children home alone while she traveled to Las Vegas.![]()
According to Osceola County Capt. Montes, after her 9-year-old son was injured, Irene Miller, 50, called her 14-year-old son on his cell phone and berated him for calling 911. The phone was on speaker, and the teen was standing next to a deputy at the time.![]()
Montes told the New York Post that Miller asked her son, "Why are you calling 911? You're going to get me in trouble." The captain said the call showed she knew what she had done was wrong.![]()
The 9-year-old had suffered a bloody forehead wound around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 when a dumbbell fell on him while he was building a fort inside the family's home. His wound was glued closed at the hospital. Miller did not return home early, according to the report.![]()
The children, ages 9, 11, 12 and 14, had been checked on each morning and after school by a babysitter who drove about two hours from Tampa. Deputies noted the home and children were clean, but there was very little food in the house.![]()
The children were placed with their father, Mark Miller, 53, who has pleaded not guilty to a battery charge from an August confrontation with his wife outside the kids' school. Montes said the no contact order between the parents does not bar the children from staying with him. They have reportedly been staying at a motel.![]()
Irene Miller was arrested at Orlando International Airport when she returned Friday, about a day and a half after her son was hurt. She faces four counts of child endangerment and was released from the Orange County Jail Saturday after posting a $4,000 bond.![]()
Her next court date was not immediately clear.![]()

Conservative activist James O'Keefe and influencer Cam Higby have been charged with felonies in Minnesota over a hidden-camera video they filmed inside Minneapolis polling places during the state's August primary.![]()
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announced Wednesday that O'Keefe, 42, and Higby, 26, each face one count of unlawful voting and one count of identity theft.![]()
Prosecutors say the two gave election judges the names of four real registered voters in multiple precincts without those voters' knowledge. Moriarty said the names included both living and deceased people. The charges do not allege that either man actually cast a ballot, but Moriarty said Minnesota law makes it a crime to misrepresent your identity when applying for a ballot.![]()
The video, released in August, showed O'Keefe in a thobe and Higby in a burqa questioning poll workers about Minnesota's voter "vouching" law, which has been on the books since the 1970s. The law lets a registered voter attest that a new voter lives in the precinct so they can register on Election Day. It does not allow anyone to use another voter's identity.![]()
One of the voters whose name was used, University of Minnesota professor William Pomeranz, told CBS Minnesota he learned about it when a student showed him what was circulating online.![]()
O'Keefe's group has maintained that no ballots were cast and no affidavits were signed, and that the goal was to expose weaknesses in the vouching system. Higby said Wednesday he "showed how Minnesota allows cheating in elections" and has launched a fundraiser for his legal defense.![]()
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon warned in August that the pair had put themselves in legal jeopardy.![]()
Both men are scheduled to make their first court appearance Nov. 16.![]()
O'Keefe founded Project Veritas in 2010 and later started O'Keefe Media Group. He has ties to West Palm Beach.![]()
