North Korea suspected in largest crypto heist on record, $6.3 billion stolen from BinanceHackers drained roughly $6.3 billion from Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, beginning around 4 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, in what blockchain investigators are calling the largest crypto theft in history.Blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs puts the total at $6.36 billion, moved out of Binance wallets across ten blockchains. TRM attributes the attack with high confidence to TraderTraitor, an elite North Korean state-sponsored hacking unit. Chainalysis also said it has high confidence North Korea was behind it. Binance has not confirmed who carried out the attack.According to Binance, its initial investigation shows the attackers got in through an engineer's laptop, which gave them access to a service container where they submitted unauthorized withdrawals. The exchange said it found no evidence that any wallet private keys were leaked.Withdrawals remain paused while Binance completes a security scan. The company says its SAFU emergency fund and company funds will cover all user losses. Stablecoin issuer Circle has frozen more than $800 million of the stolen funds. The theft is roughly four times the size of the $1.5 billion Bybit hack in February 2025, which the FBI tied to the same North Korean group.Do you keep any money in crypto? Does a hack this size change how you feel about leaving funds on an exchange? Let us know in the c#crypto.#Binanceo#NorthKoreaNorthKorea ...
