Imagine you went to an event to see the President speak. Before the event, the Secret Service learned of a credible bomb threat against the building. You’re standing in line. You watch the President walk in the front door. What you don’t see is that they immediately walked him out the back and put him in a catering van, because the threat was that serious. Then they let you and everyone else file into the building anyway, hoping it doesn’t blow up.
That is essentially what just happened, except worse, because it happened at 35,000 feet with no way out.
Air Force One is operated by the United States military, an institution whose entire purpose is protecting American lives. This Secretary of Defense allowed that military to knowingly fly unknowing civilians, including members of the press, on a plane facing a threat so serious that the most powerful man in the world had to be smuggled off of it in a food truck. Away from the most protected aircraft in history. Away from the most advanced defensive technology on the planet. Because that plane was no longer safe enough for him.
It was still apparently safe enough for everyone else. They just weren’t told. AND they wanted those who made the threat to think he was STILL on the plane.
And this wasn’t some vague chatter. This was a threat from Iran, the same country this administration has spent a year telling us it obliterated (“like no one’s every seen before”) and reduced to nothing. Either that was true, or the threat was. Both cannot be.
I have to believe that if the reporters and staff on that plane had known, many would have chosen not to board. That choice was taken from them. Their trust in their own government and their own military was used against them, and they were flown into danger as unwitting decoys. That’s right, American citizens reduced to unknowing decoys for the most powerful man in the world. They literally admitted the flew it as a decoy! I want to know how many laws were broken to do it.
This story has gotten some attention, but nowhere near what it deserves. The President himself has now confirmed he was quietly moved to a different plane because of the threat. This is admitted. People should be demanding resignations, impeachments, and a real investigation into what crimes were committed against these civilian citizens by their own government. And make no mistake, using American civilians as camouflage does not project strength to our allies or our adversaries. It makes us look weak, and worse, it makes us look like a government that treats its own citizens as expendable by their own President.
One thing is certain with this administration: they want you to believe everything they say, and none of what you actually see.
