Brevard County has averaged just over 21 traffic crashes every single day in 2025, according to the latest data released by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles crash dashboard. You can view the dashboard here: https://www.flhsmv.gov/traffic-crash-reports/crash-dashboard/
Between January 1 and December 25, 2025, Brevard recorded:
- 7,683 total crashes
- 85 traffic deaths
- 5,493 injuries
- 1,633 hit-and-run crashes
- 366 hit-and-run injuries
- 6 hit-and-run deaths
That total averages out to 21.4 crashes per day in Brevard County this year. The figures are listed as preliminary as of December 27, 2025, meaning totals may rise slightly once all reports are finalized.

Deaths remain unchanged even as crash totals drop
One of the most striking findings is that traffic deaths this year are identical to last year’s total, even though the total number of crashes declined. That means crashes are becoming deadlier.
Brevard County 2024 totals (full year):
- 8,396 total crashes
- 85 traffic deaths
- 6,337 injuries
- 1,892 hit-and-run crashes
- 457 hit-and-run injuries
- 7 hit-and-run deaths
That means crashes fell by 713 from 2024 to 2025, yet the number of people killed on Brevard roads stayed exactly the same at 85.

Hit-and-run crashes remain a serious problem
Hit-and-run incidents continue to make up a large share of local crashes.
In 2025:
- 1 in every 5 crashes in Brevard County is a hit-and-run
- There were 1,633 hit-and-run crashes
- 6 people were killed
- 366 people were injured
Last year’s total was even higher at 1,892 hit-and-runs.
Leaving the scene of a crash with injuries or death is a felony under Florida law. However, law enforcement agencies across the state consistently identify hit-and-run enforcement and identification as a major challenge.
Alcohol-related crashes account for a small but devastating share
The dashboard also breaks out alcohol-only impaired driving crashes in Brevard for 2025:
- 103 impaired driving crashes
- 48 injuries
- 2 deaths
While alcohol-related crashes represent a relatively small share of Brevard’s total crash volume, they are among the most preventable types of fatal crashes.

How Brevard fits into the statewide picture
Across Florida between January 1 and December 25, 2025, the state recorded:
- 352,879 crashes
- 2,728 traffic deaths
- 229,804 injuries
- 88,619 hit-and-run crashes
- 174 hit-and-run deaths
- 18,726 hit-and-run injuries
Brevard represents a little more than 2 percent of all crashes statewide, but its 85 traffic deaths place the county among the higher-fatality regions in Florida.
I-95 continues to be a danger zone
Many of the most serious crashes reported locally this year have occurred on Interstate 95, which runs the length of the county and carries high-speed commuter and freight traffic. The Space Coast Rocket has reported multiple serious and fatal I-95 crashes just in the past several weeks, drawing heavy reader engagement and concern.
Most crashes investigated by city police, not the highway patrol
The dashboard also reveals which agencies handle most crash investigations in Brevard. Of the 2025 crash reports:
- 60.9 percent were handled by municipal police departments
- 33.8 percent by the Florida Highway Patrol
- 5.3 percent by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office
The bottom line
Even with crash totals dipping slightly from last year, Brevard County is still averaging more than 21 crashes per day, and traffic deaths have not declined.
Hit-and-run incidents, impaired driving, distracted driving, speed, and high-speed corridor crashes all continue to play a role in the county’s roadway danger.
These numbers are preliminary and will be finalized by the state in early 2026. But the trend is clear: roadway safety remains a major public health issue in Brevard County.
Drivers are urged to slow down, stay alert, and never leave the scene of a crash.
