Around 10:30 pm, the fiance’ of Cocoa Police Officer Patrick Kelly, reportedly called 911 stating that Kelly was armed with a rifle and handgun and was making threats as she exited the home. She is also a Cocoa Police officer.
Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) was in communication with 39-year-old Kelly who was allegedly threatening to harm himself and any law enforcement officers responding to the scene. He is reportedly an Army Veteran.
BCSO SWAT and STAR (helicopter) were quickly deployed to the area, and the surrounding streets were immediately closed down. The home is located in Arrivas Village, a Viera subdivision directly across the street from Outback Steakhouse at the corner of Lake Andrew Dr and Napola Dr.
Upon our arrival, shots from a high powered long rifle could be heard in very close proximity. Neighbors report hearing a total of about 100 rounds throughout the entire incident. The gun fire was sporadic and spaced out until BCSO began approaching. As two BCSO deputies in tactical gear approached the east wall, Kelly fired several rounds directly at the officers who ducked for cover behind a BCSO vehicle. The rounds appeared to strike the vehicle.
