🚨 SHOOTING INTO OCCUPIED HOME UNDER INVESTIGATION IN TITUSVILLEThe Titusville Police Department is asking for the public’s help after two suspects allegedly fired multiple rounds into an occupied home in the 1400 block of Thomas Street around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.According to investigators, the suspects walked up to the residence, opened fire, and then fled on foot to a waiting newer-model white sedan, believed to possibly be a Mercedes-Benz or Lincoln.Thankfully, despite the home being occupied at the time of the shooting, no one was injured.Detectives are asking residents and businesses in the area to check any surveillance or doorbell camera footage from around the time of the incident. Florida's surgeon general says opposition to abortion may be part of why measles is spreading here.At an Orlando press conference, Joseph Ladapo was asked about the state's rising case count. He said everyone has to take a vaccine, then pointed to Ave Maria University, the Catholic college in Collier County where most of Florida's cases have been. He said the measles vaccine is made with cells descended from an aborted fetus, and that he was not sure whether students there refusing the shot was connected to that.The measles and mumps parts of the MMR shot are grown in chicken embryo cells. The rubella part is grown in a cell line that came from one abortion in the 1960s, and no fetal tissue has been used since. The shot does not contain fetal cells. Pediatricians call that claim false. The Vatican told Catholic parents in 2017 to vaccinate their kids with a clear conscience.The CDC counted 2,318 measles cases nationwide through July 23, more than all of 2025. It is the worst year since 1991. Florida ranks fifth with 141 cases, up from 8 last year. SUMTER COUNTY SHERIFF PULLS THE PLUG ON FLOCK CAMERAS AFTER DETECTIVE ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY USING THEM TO TRACK HER HUSBAND'S EX-WIFEThe nightmare scenario critics of license plate readers have warned about for years just played out an hour and a half up the road.Sumter County Sheriff Pat Breeden announced the arrest of Detective Brandy Almany, a deputy with the agency since 2019, after an internal audit on July 23 flagged irregular activity across multiple restricted law enforcement databases. Investigators say she accessed the Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID), the Comprehensive Case Information System (CCIS) and the agency's Flock automated license plate reader network to gather information on her husband's ex-wife.To cover her tracks, investigators allege, Almany attached unrelated sheriff's office case numbers to the searches and created official electronic records making it look like the lookups were tied to legitimate criminal investigations.She was charged with one count of official misconduct and three counts of offenses against computer users. The case went to the State Attorney's Office for the 5th Judicial Circuit, which approved the arrest warrant. She was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center on $12,500 bond. Additional charges are possible as the audits expand."As your sheriff, I've promised accountability and transparency. Today, I had to arrest one of my own for misuse of multiple law enforcement databases," Breeden said.Then he did something almost no sheriff in Florida has done. He shut the cameras off. "While I do believe these systems are a valuable tool for law enforcement, due to these circumstances, I have ordered a complete internal audit of all the databases, and I have suspended the use of Flock," Breeden said. His office has not said how many cameras are affected.According to the EFF's Atlas of Surveillance, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office operates 15 Flock automated license plate readers as of September 2025, and municipal agencies across the county have their own arrangements. Statewide, more than 6,000 license plate reader cameras were mapped across Florida as of March 2026. Every one of those systems runs on the same premise: that the people with login credentials will only use them for legitimate police work.The Sumter case did not come apart because of an outside watchdog, a public records request or a journalist. It came apart because somebody inside ran an audit. That should raise an obvious question for every agency in this county. When was the last audit, who conducted it, and what did it find?Not everybody agrees the cameras should go dark. Sumter resident Bill Glynn told News 6 the cameras are terrific and have solved far more crimes than they've caused, adding that the system needs to be cleaned up but should stay. Others in the county applauded the suspension. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood's office told FOX 35 that clear policy and strict enforcement through termination and prosecution is the way to handle abuse.Both things can be true. The technology solves real cases.
