ROCKLEDGE, Fla. (October 23, 2025) — A Rockledge woman was arrested earlier this week after allegedly threatening to burn down Rockledge High School during a heated phone call with school staff over a student lunch account issue.

According to a report from the Rockledge Police Department, officers responded to the school on October 21 following a complaint from a cafeteria employee who said she received an irate call from a woman later identified as Brandie Christine Covington.

Lauer told police that Covington became enraged after her daughter’s boyfriend was unable to receive a school-supplied lunch because there were insufficient funds in his account. When Lauer tried to explain the school’s policy regarding lunch payments, Covington began yelling and cursing, according to the report.

Lauer stated that Covington told her she was “going to Viera to handle the issue” and threatened to burn the school down. When Lauer attempted to calm her, Covington allegedly said, “I’ll be over there to blow that f**in’ school up,” before hanging up. Lauer immediately reported the threat to the school’s resource officer.

Assistant Principal Brian Irvine also provided a sworn statement to police. He said he received a similar call minutes later from a woman identifying herself as Covington, who again expressed anger about the lunch situation. Irvine said the caller screamed profanities and repeated that she would “burn the school down” before hanging up.

Police verified that both calls originated from the same phone number which was registered to Covington. Investigators then went to Covington’s home on Lee Avenue in Rockledge.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with Covington, who agreed to speak with them. According to the report, she admitted to making two calls to the school that morning — one to the cafeteria employee and another to the assistant principal — but denied making any direct threats of violence. She acknowledged being “pissed” about the lunch account situation and said she was frustrated that no one had called her back.

Police noted that her statements were largely consistent with those of school staff, except for her denial of any threats.

Covington was arrested for making a false report or threat concerning the use of a firearm, explosive, or weapon of mass destruction (F.S.S. 790.162) — a felony offense — and transported to Viera Hospital for medical evaluation before being booked into the Brevard County Jail.
