TITUSVILLE, Fla. — The Titusville Police Department announced that Phase 1 of the city’s School Zone Speed Safety Camera program will begin Monday, March 9, at several school zones across Titusville.

According to the department, the new enforcement system is intended to reduce speeding in school zones and improve safety for students, staff, and families traveling to and from school each day.

For the first 60 days of the program, drivers detected traveling 11 mph or more above the posted school zone speed limit will receive a warning notice only. Police said that warning period is meant to give motorists time to adjust to the new system and become familiar with where cameras are operating.

After the warning period ends on May 8, 2026, citations will begin to be issued. Titusville Police stated that each warning notice and future citation will be reviewed by a police officer before being sent to the registered vehicle owner.

Phase 1 school zone camera locations include:

• Apollo Elementary School, 3085 Knox McRae Drive
• Coquina Elementary School, 850 Knox McRae Drive
• Andrew Jackson Middle School, 1515 Knox McRae Drive
• St. Teresa Catholic School, 207 Ojibway Avenue
• Park Avenue Christian Academy, 2600 S. Park Avenue
• Titusville High School, 150 S. Terrier Trail

At Titusville High School, police said the monitored areas will include the school zone on the west side of the school along South Hopkins Avenue, as well as the school zone on Amos Lewis Street, formerly Sycamore Street, extending across South Hopkins on Sycamore Street between South Washington Avenue and the area west of the railroad tracks.

Police said the cameras will operate during the following times:

• 30 minutes before school begins
• Throughout the entire school day
• Until 30 minutes after school ends

The department also reminded drivers that during the first hour of the school day and the last hour of the school day, the reduced school zone speed limit, typically 15 to 20 mph, will be in effect and marked by flashing yellow lights. When those lights are not flashing, the speed limit returns to the normal posted speed, which is typically 30 to 35 mph.

Under the new program, a vehicle traveling 11 mph or more over the posted school zone speed limit will activate the system.

Titusville Police said the program is focused on changing driver behavior and reducing the risk to children in active school zones.

“We encourage all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and focus on safe driving habits, especially in school zones where our children are present,” the department stated in its announcement.

The department is directing residents seeking more information to the Technology Transparency Portal on the Titusville Police Department webpage.
