Titusville has a new police chief.![]()
![]()
The Titusville Police Department announced Thursday that Tyler "TJ" Wright has been appointed Chief of Police. Wright has been running the department as interim chief since June, when former Chief John Lau was fired after crashing his city-owned police SUV and refusing an alcohol test.![]()
![]()
Wright brings nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and holds a master's degree in public safety from the University of Virginia. He was one of four finalists the city named in its search, alongside candidates from Pennsylvania, Gainesville and North Carolina.![]()
![]()
Lau, who led the department since 2012, rolled his unmarked Chevrolet Tahoe just outside city limits on June 23. Officers found a partially consumed bottle of vodka in the vehicle. He refused breath and blood testing at the hospital, which violated city personnel policy, and was fired the next day. FHP did not file criminal charges. A careless driving ticket was later dismissed, and Lau pleaded no contest to an open container violation.![]()
