TITUSVILLE, Fla. A Titusville man who teaches and coaches at a K-12 charter school in southeast Volusia County is on administrative leave after police arrested him on an indecent exposure charge over the weekend.
Justin N. Samson, 41, of Titusville, faces one count of Exposure of Sexual Organs under Florida Statute 800.03, according to the Titusville Police Department.
What police say happened
Titusville Police officers were called to the 2100 block of Knox McRae Drive around 8:21 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24. The caller reported a man exposing himself and engaging in lewd behavior outside a residence.
Police said officers collected witness statements and cellphone video of the incident during their investigation. They identified Samson as the suspect.
Samson was arrested and taken to the Brevard County Jail, where police said he was booked on no bond status.
Police said further investigation showed that Samson is a teacher at Burns Science & Technology Charter School in Volusia County. They said the school’s administration had been notified.
School places teacher on leave
The school sent a letter to families about the arrest, and the letter was later shared on social media. In it, school officials described Samson as a member of their teaching and coaching staff. The letter gives Sunday, Oct. 25, as the date of his arrest.
The school said that, based on what it knew at the time, the incident happened off campus. It said it had received no information that any students or minors were involved.
The school said Samson has been placed on administrative leave. While the matter is reviewed, he will not teach, coach, or take part in school activities. The letter said the school is making arrangements to keep classroom instruction and athletic programs running.
School officials wrote that they had confirmed the arrest and charge with law enforcement. They had not yet received the official police report or arrest affidavit. The letter also noted that an arrest is not a finding of guilt.
