COCOA, FL — August 2, 2025 A 22-year-old Rockledge man was arrested Saturday afternoon after leading Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a high-speed motorcycle chase along Interstate 95 that reached speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour and ended with a crash and foot pursuit into the woods.

According to an arrest affidavit filed by Trooper J. Provencher of the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident began around 2:40 p.m. at mile marker 204 on I-95 when the trooper observed a red Suzuki GSX-R 1000 with no tag attached, weaving through lanes at a high rate of speed.

The rider, later identified as Joseph Daniel Becht, was reportedly wearing a grey hoodie, black pants, and a full-face black helmet. When the trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, Becht allegedly accelerated, passing vehicles on the shoulder and continuing to evade law enforcement even after exiting and reentering the interstate at high speeds.

At one point during the chase, the motorcycle was clocked at speeds over 150 mph, making it impossible for patrol units to keep up. The pursuit continued until the suspect crashed near the Port St. John Parkway exit. Witnesses told troopers they saw the suspect flee on foot into a wooded area.

After losing visual contact, troopers received assistance from civilians who directed them to Becht’s location in the woods. Trooper Provencher reported that Becht was found lying on the ground and taken into custody without further incident.

Becht was transported to Viera Hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Brevard County Jail.

He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Fleeing to Elude with Disregard for the Safety of Others (F.S.S. 316.1935.3a)
  • Dangerous Excessive Speeding — 50+ mph over the posted limit (F.S.S. 316.1922)
  • Expired Registration Over 6 Months (F.S.S. 320.07.3b)

Bond was set at $500 for the speeding charge, while no bond was granted for the felony fleeing to elude charge. Becht is scheduled to appear in court at the Brevard County Court in Viera, located at 2825 Judge Fran Jamieson Way.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident and has not ruled out additional charges. Authorities praised the assistance of nearby civilians, whose observations were instrumental in the suspect’s apprehension.
