TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Agent Kevin Morris was killed overnight when a wrong-way driver hit him head-on on Interstate 95 in Titusville, Sheriff Wayne Ivey told agency staff early Sunday.Morris was responding to a deputy-involved shooting in the north end of the county at the time of the crash.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I share with you that our own, Agent Kevin Morris, was tragically killed last night,” Sheriff Ivey said.
The Florida Highway Patrol is the lead agency investigating the crash. According to Ivey’s email, a driver going the wrong way on I-95 struck Morris’s vehicle head-on.
FHP has not publicly released the identity or condition of the wrong-way driver. The crash occurred near mile marker 223 heading north.

A career spanning two Brevard agencies
Morris joined the Sheriff’s Office after retiring from the Palm Bay Police Department in 2011, according to Ivey. He first served as a deputy sheriff and later took an assignment as an agent in the agency’s Criminal Investigative Services.
Ivey said that saying Morris was loved by everyone who knew him “would be an understatement.” The sheriff said his heart was broken over the loss and its impact on the agency.
Shooting details not yet released
The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released details about the deputy-involved shooting Morris was responding to. That includes where it happened, who was involved, and whether anyone was hurt.
Second agency loss on I-95 in Titusville
Morris’s death comes more than eight years after the Sheriff’s Office lost another member on the same stretch of interstate. Field Training Officer Kevin Stanton was killed on Feb. 17, 2018, when a semi-truck struck his marked patrol car on I-95 in Titusville. The agency announced his death that morning.
FHP said a tire tread separation on the semi caused the truck to veer into Stanton’s path near State Road 50, according to reports at the time. Stanton, 32, had been with the agency for more than a decade and was working toward a full-time agent position. The Sheriff’s Office honors him as Agent Kevin Stanton on its fallen deputies memorial.
The Sheriff’s Office is expected to release information about funeral arrangements and memorial plans for Morris.
This is a developing story. The Space Coast Rocket has reached out to the Florida Highway Patrol and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office for additional information and will update this article as details become available.
