Melbourne Police Officer shot while conducting a well-being check at extended stay hotel

While conducting a well-being check at the Suburban Extended Stay Hotel on Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. in Melbourne, Florida.  This is located near the Melbourne Orlando International Airport.

According to reports, the officer was shot in the bullet-proof vest upon gaining entry to the room.

The SWAT team responded to the scene and the suspect is in custody.
