Senator Debbie Mayfield, a Rockledge Republican, filed (SB 1310) last week seeking to exempt the sale of guns, ammo, hunting and fishing supplies from sales tax for one day of each year. Much like the back to school sales tax holiday.

The sales tax holiday would run from 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 5, 2020.  Tax exemption for fishing supplies would not include commercial fishing equipment.

This measure comes with a cost however. The bill calls for $237,000 from the State’s General Revenue Fund to cover the cost to implement this bill.
