Brevard County, FL — A 52-year-old woman from Ponte Vedra Beach was killed Thursday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 north of the Pineda Causeway, according to a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) report.
The crash happened at approximately 4:12 p.m. near mile marker 188 in the southbound lanes.
Troopers say the woman was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram in the inside lane when, for an unknown reason, the pickup veered off the roadway to the left and struck a crash attenuator. The impact caused the truck to go airborne and begin overturning before striking a 2017 Audi RS7 traveling in the center lane.
The force of the collision ejected the pickup truck’s driver, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. FHP reported that she was not wearing a seatbelt.
Crash debris then struck a third vehicle, a 2021 Toyota RAV4 traveling in the outside lane. The 45-year-old male driver of the Audi from Fresh Meadows, New York, and the 30-year-old female driver of the Toyota from Port St. Lucie were not injured and remained on scene. Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
Next of kin for the deceased woman has been notified. Her name has not yet been released.
Troopers say the investigation is ongoing.
Traffic in the area was heavily impacted while first responders worked the scene.
