From the Brevard Sheriff’s Office:
The armed suspect who threatened participants and spectators with a handgun at Viera Regional Park on November 3, 2023, has died from injuries sustained after being hit by a vehicle during the incident. 33-Year-old Devin Carroll of Titusville was pronounced deceased at a local hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Devin Carroll

Investigation thus far has revealed that Mr. Carroll was traveling in a vehicle with a female friend when he became paranoid that people were after him before pulling a handgun he had in his possession. The female pulled the vehicle over in the area of Borasco Drive, Viera and fled, at which time she advised she heard a gunshot. Upon arrival at the vehicle, deputies found that the subject had left the scene. During the search of the vehicle, a single spent shell casing was discovered.

While at the scene on Borasco Drive, information was received that a male matching the same description was at Viera Regional Park, armed with a handgun and threatening both participants and spectators of a sporting event. Deputies responded to the park and found Carroll on the ground after having been struck by a vehicle in the parking lot. Based on interviews, several people in the park were directly threatened by the suspect as he went through the park armed with the handgun.

The investigation determined that Carroll entered a vehicle in the parking lot in an effort to flee. He was unable to start the vehicle and fled from the area, walking toward an oncoming vehicle where he pointed the firearm at the driver. The driver, in fear for his safety, struck Carroll, incapacitating him. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the subsequent investigation. Carroll was transported to an area hospital where he remained until his death.
