Hero dad stops armed man threatening spectators at Viera Regional Park

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on November 3, 2023, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man with a gun threatening spectators at Viera Regional Park.

The incident began as deputies responded to Borasco Drive, Viera, Florida, in reference to a disturbance where a male reportedly fired a handgun. A female reported that she was giving a ride to a male friend when he began acting paranoid and produced a firearm. The female stopped the car and fled, at which time she advised she heard a shot.


As deputies were responding to that call, information was received that a male matching the description, was at Viera Regional Park threatening spectators with a gun. Deputies responded to the park and found that the male had been struck by a vehicle while running through the parking lot.

According to witnesses, an unidentified father saw the armed suspect and intentionally struck him with his vehicle. The suspect reportedly suffered two broken legs and was unconscious when police arrived. They also state that the suspect pointed the gun at a mom and a little girl.


The male was transported to the hospital where he is currently receiving medical care.

Families at the park describe the incident as terrifying as they grabbed their children and ran for shelter. Two parents were able to get a lot of the children sheltered inside a bathroom.

The incident is still under investigation.  The identity of the male is not being released at this time and charges are pending.
