Sheriff Ivey’s Chief Legal Counsel Laura Moody Appointed as Judge in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court

Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Laura Moody, Chief Legal Counsel for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, as a judge in Florida’s Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court, serving Brevard and Seminole counties. This appointment fills the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Maloney.

Moody’s legal career includes serving as an Assistant State Attorney from 2007 to 2019, where she held positions such as Felony Trial Division Chief and Division Chief of the Elder & Economic Crimes Division. In 2019, she became Chief Legal Counsel for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, providing legal guidance on legislative updates, litigating asset forfeitures, and coordinating with various components of the local criminal justice system.

In June 2022, Governor DeSantis appointed Moody to the Eastern Florida State College District Board of Trustees, recognizing her commitment to public service and legal expertise.

Moody’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Flagler College, a master’s in public administration from the University of Central Florida, and a juris doctor from Florida A&M University College of Law, where she graduated as valedictorian in 2007.

Her appointment to the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court reflects her extensive legal experience and dedication to serving the community. The local legal community anticipates her contributions to upholding justice in Brevard and Seminole counties.
