50 Years a Judge! 2025 Marked 50 Years of Service by the Honorable Larry Johnston
It is a noteworthy milestone when attorneys are fortunate enough to celebrate 50 years as a member of the The Florida Bar, but 50 years of service as a judge in the state court system is quite the achievement. Circuit Judge Larry Johnston celebrated his 50-year anniversary in 2025. The 50 years included work as a City Judge for Cocoa & Rockledge starting in 1975. He then served as a Brevard County Court Judge, Circuit Judge, and finally Senior Judge.
Sadly, Judge Johnston used this 50-year milestone to hang up his robe for good. To say he will be missed is an understatement. Attorneys say he ran a tight and efficient docket but treated everyone, attorneys and defendants alike, with respect. His favorite division “by far” was juvenile, where he hoped to make a difference in a child’s life before it was too late. He made his mark with unique sentencing intended to educate, never berate. In later years he would hear from some of the juveniles he interacted with in court. Their profound gratitude was proof he truly did make a difference.
In an email addressed to the entire Eighteenth Circuit, Deputy Chief Judge Charlie Crawford thanked Judge Johnston for half a century of serving our Circuit with distinction.
