BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was hospitalized on Christmas Day after a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 95 ended in a violent crash, authorities said.
According to FHP, the incident began when troopers spotted a vehicle swerving and speeding on the interstate. When a trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver reportedly refused to pull over and continued northbound, leading law enforcement on a pursuit into the Titusville area.
At some point during the chase, the fleeing vehicle and the trooper’s patrol car collided. The injured trooper was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Officials say he suffered serious injuries but is now awake and able to speak.
The driver accused of fleeing is expected to face reckless driving and additional charges. FHP also confirmed that a passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody and is believed to have an active warrant.
Both suspects remain detained as the investigation continues.
FHP says more details will be released as the case develops.
