BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper had to push his patrol car to 131 mph early Sunday morning to catch a driver allegedly speeding more than 40 mph over the limit and weaving through traffic on Interstate 95.

According to the arrest report, the incident happened around 2:41 a.m. on August 4 near Viera Boulevard (mile marker 193). Trooper Logan Koller reported seeing a dark-colored sedan traveling at a much higher rate of speed than other vehicles, overtaking traffic on the left.

The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Brandon Matthew Barfield of Deltona, reportedly weaved around slower vehicles at the 192-mile marker, using all three lanes to pass. Koller accelerated to catch up, clocking his patrol vehicle at 131 mph as he closed the gap.

FHP says Barfield’s vehicle was moving at 99 mph when first clocked, slowed to 92 mph, then accelerated to 110 mph. After slowing to 103 mph, he allegedly passed two more vehicles before being stopped at the 188-mile marker.

Troopers say Barfield was driving a black Infiniti with Florida tag KVN UZ2 and had been cited by Orlando Police just three days earlier for going 103 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Barfield was arrested and booked into the Brevard County Jail on a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle at more than 100 mph in a manner that threatened people or property. His bond was set at $500.
