On State Road 528, just east of State Road 3 (Courtenay Parkway), a tragic accident occurred involving a 2005 Infiniti G35 and a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound in the left lane, with the Infiniti positioned behind the Kenworth.
The incident began when the driver of the Infiniti lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway to the left, onto the shoulder. As the Infiniti attempted to regain control, it rotated clockwise back onto the roadway, moving directly into the path of the Kenworth. The front of the Infiniti struck the left side of the Kenworth, resulting in a severe impact.
The collision caused the Infiniti to overturn, sliding in a southeasterly direction until it came to rest on the right shoulder. The driver of the Infiniti and two passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center. Tragically, another passenger in the Infiniti was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Kenworth was not injured and remained at the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
