8,260 Brevard voters cast ballots in person Tuesday. That's a typical weekday, slightly below Monday's 8,528. Opening day, Oct. 19, is still the busiest day so far with 9,140. Sunday was the slowest with 5,000. Another 2,759 mail ballots were returned today.![]()

**Trump-Backed Brazilian Candidate Flees to U.S. After Losing Election, Defying Court Order, and State Department Hands His Family Visas**![]()
The U.S. State Department says it will grant visas to Brazilian Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro and his family after he left Brazil following his loss in Sunday's presidential runoff to incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. One source close to the family said Flávio had landed in Florida, but declined to say where.![]()
Bolsonaro left Brazil after refusing to comply with a Supreme Court order to surrender his passports. He was served with that order Monday, a day after his loss, outside the home where his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro, is serving a 27-year sentence under house arrest for attempting a coup following his 2022 election loss to Lula. A senior Federal Police official said Bolsonaro had not exited the country through any regular migration point.![]()
The legal issues: Bolsonaro is under investigation by Brazil's Supreme Court for alleged corruption, money laundering and tax evasion in two cases, and he has denied any wrongdoing. Prosecutors suspect funds from a banker were used to pay his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro's expenses and to promote Flávio's political agenda with the Trump administration, according to documents. He loses his immunity from prosecution when his Senate term ends in February, and on Monday he said he had no plans to flee.![]()
Bolsonaro has refused to concede and has made unsubstantiated allegations of election fraud, though his own Liberal Party has acknowledged the result. Lula won by more than 4.4 million votes. President Trump, who never formally endorsed Flávio but hosted him at the White House in June and called his first-round lead "a very big victory," said Monday the vote "looked like another rigged election," while also saying he did not take sides. Reuters has reported that State Department officials led a campaign to return the Bolsonaros to power.![]()
Should the U.S. be granting visas to a foreign politician who left his country under criminal investigation and in defiance of a court order? Or is the administration right to offer him safe haven? Let us know in the comments.![]()

AMENDMENT 3 POLL: HAS YOUR VOTE CHANGED?![]()
A while back we asked how you planned to vote on Amendment 3, the property tax amendment. A lot has happened since then, so we're asking again.![]()
If it gets 60% of the vote on Nov. 3, Amendment 3 would raise the homestead exemption on non-school property taxes to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028.![]()
Here's what has changed:![]()
Senate President Ben Albritton, who championed the measure and voted to put it on the ballot in June, now says he will vote NO. He says it would cut up to 30% of funding for rural counties, hitting law enforcement, emergency services and infrastructure. Former Senate President Kathleen Passidomo is also voting no.![]()
The Florida Sheriffs Association says it is "significantly concerned," warning of longer response times and Tallahassee control over local budgets. Sheriffs including Polk County's Grady Judd have called it a "train wreck." Firefighter, police, hospital, city and county groups are also opposed.![]()
State economists estimate the cuts to local governments at about $5 billion in the first year and up to $12 billion a year once fully in place. Critics also warn it could lead to new fees or tax hikes, and that renters would see little or no benefit.![]()
Some are also questioning whether the savings would actually reach buyers and renters, or whether builders, sellers and landlords would simply keep prices and rents where they are and pocket the difference.![]()
On the other side, the Yes on 3 campaign has been funded almost entirely by Florida Realtors, which had put $18 million into it as of late September. Gov. DeSantis also supports it. Backers say homeowners need relief now as housing, insurance and other costs keep rising.![]()
For Brevard homeowners, one estimate puts the savings at roughly $1,000 a year in 2027 and about $2,000 in 2028 in cities like Palm Bay, Melbourne and Titusville, and about $350 rising to $710 in unincorporated Brevard.![]()
So where do you stand now? Vote with a reaction:![]()
❤️ Love = YES on 3
😮 Wow = NO on 3
🤗 Care = UNDECIDED![]()
Then tell us in the comments if your vote has changed since our last poll. Renters and recent buyers, we especially want to hear from you: do you expect any of the savings to reach you?![]()
