Another weekend shooting in Melbourne, 16-year-old in critical condition, shot in back of head

Melbourne police officers responded Saturday night at 9:26 p.m. to the 900 block of Cedar Drive regarding several reports of gunshots and a possible gunshot victim.

“Officers arrived on the scene, quickly located a victim, and immediately rendered medical aid,” said Melbourne Police Cmdr. Heath Sanders.

“The victim was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center and is currently in critical condition.”

Cmdr. Sanders said the initial information received was that unknown suspects fled the area in a white car prior to the arrival of officers.

The victim’s identity is not being released at this time, and Melbourne police detectives are actively investigating this incident.

Melbourne police are asking anyone with information to call the Melbourne Police Department at 321-608-6731 to speak with a detective or call the Central Florida Crime Line at 800-423-TIPS (8477).

Last weekend, 3 victims were shot in the early morning of May 6th in downtown Melbourne. Two of the victims remain in the hospital in critical condition. No arrests have been made.
