BREVARD COUNTY, FL — Brevard Public Schools (BPS) and the Brevard Federation of Teachers (BFT) have finalized a settlement agreement resolving a compensation dispute affecting first-year teachers across the district, officials announced Thursday.

The agreement, which was presented to a neutral arbitrator who recommended the parties accept it, will deliver a one-time $750 payment to qualifying teachers on May 29, 2026. To be eligible, a teacher must have been hired by October 28, 2025, and remain actively employed with BPS as of April 16, 2026. The payment will be subject to standard payroll withholding. Approximately 530 teachers are expected to qualify.

The deal addresses a gap created when first-year teachers were excluded from the district’s recent 2% salary increase. Both BPS and BFT said they share a commitment to supporting new educators and maintaining a stable workforce.

The agreement also extends forward-looking benefits to those covered. All eligible employees will receive the negotiated raises for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years, contingent upon continued employment with Brevard Public Schools.

As part of the settlement, BPS and BFT have agreed to meet within the next 30 days to update the collective bargaining agreement language to reflect the adjustments made under the deal.
