TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida Senate President Ben Albritton was hospitalized over the weekend after experiencing chest pain and being diagnosed with a small blood clot in his lung, according to a memo from the Office of the Senate President.
The update, sent to senators and later shared publicly, said Albritton went to the Emergency Room at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare early Sunday morning. Doctors discovered a small blood clot in his lung, and he remained in the emergency room overnight. As of Monday, the memo said he was still under observation while awaiting additional testing.
“The President is in good spirits,” the office said, adding that Albritton has been in frequent contact with staff by phone and email.
The memo also indicated that Senate operations will continue without interruption. “All previously scheduled Senate business will proceed as planned this week,” the office stated.
Albritton’s office said he expects to return to the Capitol later this week. The message also said Albritton and his wife expressed gratitude to hospital staff for his care and asked for prayers.
Albritton, a Republican, represents Florida Senate District 27, which includes Charlotte, DeSoto, and Hardee counties, plus parts of Lee and Polk counties. His official Senate biography lists him as an agribusiness owner and notes prior leadership roles tied to Florida agriculture, including service with the Florida Citrus Commission and the Peace River Valley Citrus Growers Association.
