A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Canova Dog Beach in Indialantic on the morning of October 30, 2025, when a local couple’s dog was fatally attacked by two other dogs whose owner allegedly fled the scene without providing any contact information.

According to a public post made by D.J. Nugent in the Canova Beach Dog Pack group, their dog, Kilo, was attacked and killed around 8 a.m. by two poodle mixes — one described as white and black, and the other dark gray — being walked by a woman believed to be in her 60s.

Nugent wrote that they had noticed the woman struggling to control her dogs and kept Kilo close, but one of the poodles suddenly lunged, snatching Kilo out of his fiancé’s hands. The dog bit and crushed Kilo, inflicting a fatal chest wound. Despite the couple’s desperate efforts to save him, Kilo died within minutes of arriving at Aloha Animal Hospital.

“She made no effort to make her dog release or to stop the attack whatsoever,” Nugent wrote. “She even had the nerve to yell at me to stop hitting her dog at one point.”

Both Nugent and his fiancé were bitten during the attack, with his fiancé suffering an open fractured finger. The post also notes that the woman did not remain at the scene, did not offer assistance, and has not been identified.

The incident occurred on the beach just north of Lou’s Blues on Eau Gallie Beachside, an area surrounded by several condo buildings that may have cameras overlooking the shore. Nugent is asking anyone who was at the dog beach that morning or who may have photos, videos, or surf cam footage from around 8 a.m. to come forward.

“The woman fled the scene without giving any contact info,” he wrote. “If anyone has any information regarding this incident, it would be greatly appreciated.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether a formal report has been filed, but residents in the local dog community are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement or share tips through the Canova Beach Dog Pack Facebook group.

How to Help

Anyone who was at Canova Dog Beach around 8 a.m. on October 30 or who has surf, beach, or condo security footage from that timeframe is encouraged to review their recordings and contact authorities if any images of the woman or her dogs were captured.
