In Florida, the sun isn’t just strong, it’s punishing. Without some shade, it is really difficult to truly enjoy the outdoors, and that’s what HS Shade Solutions is all about. But the reason this company exists runs deeper than just beating the heat. It’s about family, loss, and keeping a promise.

Thomas’ family says was young and ambitious. He worked under Scott at an awning company and often told his parents he wanted his own business one day. He wanted to be his own boss and live the American dream. Scott had the industry knowledge, Thomas had the drive, and together they began sketching out their business plans.
“You can’t really be outside without being in some sort of shade. It’s a huge factor,” Scott said. For him and Thomas, the goal was simple: give people a way to enjoy their patios and yards safely, out of the sun and away from mosquitoes.

But on September 29, 2024, Thomas passed away unexpectedly. He had called his parents that very day, excited about the business he was about to build. The devastating loss stopped everything in its tracks. But after weeks of grief, his family asked themselves one question: what would Thomas want us to do? The answer was clear. They would push forward with the company in his honor. Make his dream a reality.

That’s why the official name is Heaven Sent Awnings and Screens, LLC. The “HS” in HS Shade Solutions stands for Heaven Sent. The company logo even carries a cardinal for Thomas. “He’s part of the business… we don’t want to leave Thomas down, just like we don’t want to leave our customers down,” his mom Karla said. From day one, the team agreed they wouldn’t cut corners.
“Each house is different, each customer is different… we find the best way possible to get them what they want,” Scott said.
That means custom work, careful product choices, and sometimes telling a customer no if something isn’t safe. “Another company could have done it that way and it would have ripped in the first storm. We don’t do that,” Scott said.
Customers have noticed the difference. Some hadn’t used their patios in years until HS Shade Solutions gave them a safe, shaded space. Grandparents now have covered porches where they can watch their grandkids play. Families are eating outside again instead of hiding indoors.
For Karla and Scott, the business is about more than screens and awnings. It’s about making good on a promise to Thomas and serving the community with honesty and care.
“As hard as it was without him, he’s also our strength to go forward. We think of him anytime we come up against a struggle and we just keep pushing,” Scott said.
They also see the company as a way to stay rooted locally. As they grow, they plan to sponsor school events, get involved in community activities, and expand into more areas of Florida. HS Shade Solutions is still a young company, but its foundation is strong: family, faith, and the determination to do things right.
“Most of the pictures I have of Thomas, he’s smiling. It’s like he’s saying, ‘Mom, don’t give up. You got this. We’ve got this,’” Karla said.
For every customer they help, they’re keeping his dream alive. That’s the real story of HS Shade Solutions.
