55-year-old woman in wheelchair killed after being hit by SUV

Melbourne, FL – A accident on Thursday evening has resulted in the death of a local pedestrian after being struck by a vehicle on Hibiscus Boulevard. Melbourne police responded to the scene at approximately 6:27 PM following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian near Medical Park Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found a pedestrian, a 55-year-old Melbourne resident, critically injured. The individual, who was using a wheelchair at the time of the crash, was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center but later succumbed to their injuries.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a blue Audi SUV, driven by Rae Fletcher, 53, of Palm Bay, was traveling eastbound on Hibiscus Boulevard. The vehicle struck the pedestrian as they attempted to cross the roadway. Police stated that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the collision. The case remains under investigation by the department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit.
