Fatal Accident on I-95 in Brevard County Leaves One Dead, Three Critically Injured

Brevard County, FL – July 21, 2024

A tragic accident on I-95 southbound at mile marker 165 resulted in the death of one individual and left three others in critical condition. The crash, which occurred at 10:36 AM, involved a single vehicle, a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by an 18-year-old male from Merritt Island.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s official press release, the driver, identified as an 18-year-old male from Merritt Island, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overcorrect and run off the roadway. The vehicle crossed all southbound lanes and overturned several times before coming to rest on the outside shoulder. The driver and three passengers, two 18-year-old females from Cocoa and a 17-year-old male from Merritt Island, were ejected from the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The three passengers were transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Trooper Acquafredda and Corporal Mendez are leading the investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

The identities of the deceased and injured have not been released pending notification of next of kin. This tragic incident highlights the importance of seatbelt use and safe driving practices.
