79-Year-Old Man Dies in Early Morning Crash in Melbourne off Stack Blvd

Melbourne, FL – A 79-year-old Melbourne man was killed early Tuesday morning after his vehicle veered off the roadway and into a retention pond, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Authorities say the crash occurred at approximately 5:52 a.m. on February 4, 2025, near Stack Boulevard and Lake Waterford Way. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2025 Chevrolet SUV submerged in a retention pond. The driver and sole occupant, identified as Roy George Pierce, was removed from the vehicle and transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to the initial investigation, the Chevrolet was traveling south on Stack Boulevard when it left the roadway, plowed through shrubbery, and ended up in the pond. At this time, police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The Melbourne Police Traffic Enforcement Unit is conducting a Traffic Homicide Investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Whitright at (321) 616-6116.
