Two major drug trafficking cases have led to lengthy federal prison sentences for men convicted of dealing dangerous drugs in our communities.

Darrell Lamar Corbin (35, West Melbourne) was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl and more than 5 grams of methamphetamine. Investigators also found drug distribution tools, including digital scales, pill presses, and a money counter in his apartment.

Augusto Rene Reyes-Gonzalez (37, Orlando) β€” a Guatemalan national known as β€œZorro” β€” received 19 years and 7 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine, plus illegal reentry after deportation. Court records show he offered to sell fentanyl, cocaine, and meth to an undercover informant and helped facilitate multi-pound drug deals.

These cases were the result of multi-agency efforts involving the West Melbourne Police Department, FBI, DEA, CBP, ATF, and other federal partners through the Safe Streets Task Forceβ€”a program targeting street gangs, drug trafficking, and violent crime.

Do you think long sentences like these are enough to stop major drug trafficking operations, or do we need even tougher penalties?
