TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A 46-year-old Titusville man is being held in the Brevard County Jail on 10 felony counts after police accused him of sexually abusing two children who were in his care, according to an arrest affidavit filed by the Titusville Police Department.
Derrick Delano Davis, of the 2200 block of Heritage Drive, was arrested July 10 and booked into the jail early on July 11. He faces four counts of sexual battery by a person in familial or custodial authority, two counts of lewd or lascivious battery, two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation and two counts of lewd or lascivious exhibition.
Please note: An arrest is not a conviction. Davis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The charges described below are allegations contained in a police affidavit and have not been tested in court.
What investigators allege
According to the sworn probable-cause affidavit, the case centers on two juvenile victims who were under Davis’s custodial care. Both children gave statements to investigators during forensic interviews conducted through a Child Protection Team, the affidavit says.
Detectives allege the abuse of the two children took place on multiple occasions and included sexual battery, inappropriate touching and exposure. Out of concern for the victims, who are minors, The Space Coast Rocket is not publishing details that could identify them or the specific relationships involved.
The affidavit breaks the charges down by victim. In connection with the first child, Davis is charged with three counts of sexual battery and one count each of lewd or lascivious battery, molestation and exhibition. In connection with the second child, he is charged with one count each of sexual battery, lewd or lascivious battery, molestation and exhibition.
Titusville police wrote that they attempted to interview Davis, but that he declined to acknowledge his Miranda rights and denied all of the allegations.
