According to investigators, the student submitted multiple false reports through the app with the intent to harass, threaten, and cause emotional distress to other students and staff members. The student has been taken into custody and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The FortifyFL system, created by the Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, allows students and the public to submit anonymous tips about potential threats or suspicious activity in schools. The goal is to provide a fast and secure way to alert authorities and help prevent acts of violence.

However, officials say the system’s integrity depends on responsible use.

“Misusing this tool by submitting false or malicious reports is a serious offense,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Abuse of the system undermines investigations, wastes resources, and can harm innocent people.”

The Sheriff’s Office and SDIRC emphasized that they maintain a zero-tolerance policy for any abuse of reporting systems.

Authorities are urging students and parents to use the FortifyFL app responsibly, stressing that false reports can lead to arrest and prosecution.

“Together, we can ensure the Fortify system remains a reliable tool for student and campus safety,” the statement concluded.
