Satellite High School, DeLaura Middle School, and Holland Elementary were placed on lockdown and shelter-in-place Wednesday afternoon after a phoned-in threat was made to the front office at Satellite High, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement.

According to Brevard Public Schools Chief Strategic Communications Officer Janet Murnaghan, the threat triggered an immediate, coordinated response from police who conducted a full sweep of the Satellite High campus. DeLaura Middle was simultaneously placed under lockdown due to its proximity, and Holland Elementary was ordered to shelter in place as a precaution.

After a thorough investigation, authorities determined there was no credible threat and issued an all-clear for all campuses.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed the incident was a swatting call — a false emergency intentionally made to provoke a major police response. Investigators say the same phone number used to target Satellite High placed a similar call to a school in another state earlier today. The number appears to originate from out of state, and preliminary information suggests it may have been outside the country, a growing trend in nationwide school swatting incidents.

Murnaghan emphasized the district’s priority remains the safety and well-being of students and staff.

“We thank our families, staff, and law enforcement for their support,” she wrote in her update.

The lockdowns caused significant concern among parents and students as police surrounded the campus during the investigation. Swatting calls have increased across the United States in recent years, overwhelming school districts and law-enforcement agencies with false threats that divert resources and create widespread fear.

Brevard Public Schools has not yet announced whether additional security measures or follow-up communications will be issued as the investigation continues.
