Pedestrian dies from hit-and-run in Melbourne

Traffic Homicide Investigation – Vehicle vs Pedestrian

At approximately 12:18AM on Monday, December 25, 2023, Melbourne police officers responded to the area of South Harbor City Blvd and Strawbridge Ave regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the pedestrian had sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and succumbed to those injuries a short time later at Holmes Regional Medical Center.

Initial investigation reveals the pedestrian attempted to cross over S Harbor City Blvd near the intersection of Strawbridge Ave when he was struck by an unknown driver of an unknown vehicle who traveling north on S Harbor City Blvd. The driver and vehicle failed to stay on scene and fled north bound on S Harbor City Blvd. It is unknown if alcohol/drugs were a factor in this crash at this time. The crash is still under investigation.
