Palm Bay Police announce unexpected passing of K9 Jay

It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of K9 Jay.

Diagnosed with Mesenteric Torsion, a rapid and often fatal disease, K9 Jay turned one on March 18th, 2024, and loved playing with his favorite Nylabone toy. K9 Jay served our community with loyalty and dedication. He was not just a valued member of our department but was also considered family to his handler, Officer Blackledge.

Tennessee to launch first-in-the-nation domestic violence offender registry Jan. 1Starting January 1, Tennessee will become the first state in the nation to launch a public registry for repeat domestic violence offenders. The registry — created under Savanna’s Law — is named after Savanna Puckett, a 22-year-old sheriff’s deputy who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2022. Investigators later learned he had a long history of domestic violence and stalking.The registry will be run by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and will publicly list:• Offender’s name• Photograph• Date of birth• Date and county of convictionIt applies to offenders convicted of domestic violence at least twice and could keep names listed for 2–20 years, depending on convictions. Home addresses and Social Security numbers will not be listed.Supporters say the goal is prevention, not punishment — helping people identify repeat abusers and make safer decisions when dating, hiring, or protecting loved ones. 34-Year-Old Woman Dies After Falling Asleep On Motorcycle and Falls Off on 95 Striking GuardrailFlorida Highway Patrol confirms a tragic crash that happened this afternoon on I-95 near mile marker 235 in just North of Brevard County.Troopers say a 45-year-old man from Sanford was riding a 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound when his 34-year-old female passenger, also from Sanford, is believed to have fallen asleep and fell from the motorcycle, striking a guardrail. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.The rider was not injured. FHP reports he was arrested for driving with a revoked license as a habitual traffic offender resulting in death and for not having the required motorcycle endorsement. He was booked into the Volusia County Jail.FHP says neither the rider nor the passenger was wearing a helmet.
