Parents of Imagine School’s at West Melbourne received an email from Principal Brian DeGonzague informing them that one of their custodians was arrested on campus yesterday by the Palm Bay Police Department. The letter did not name the individual nor what the charges were.

Through a public records request, we were able to identify the suspect as Terrell Barber. Barber was arrested on a warrant from Savannah, GA on charges of rape, child molestation, and aggravated sexual battery.

According to records from Georgia, a complaint was filed in August against Barber for the charges specified above by what appears to be his girlfriend at the time. After the complaint was filed, Barber fled and returned to Brevard County. His criminal history reveals an arrest for felony drug charges back in 2018 that were eventually dropped by the State Attorney’s office.

The letter sent to parents at Imagine claimed that Barber’s duties were mostly “after school cleaning” and that “he was never in a position to be alone with students.” However, parents claim that their children recognized Barber when provided his mugshot and that he was frequently in the classrooms around them. It’s not clear if a teacher was in the room at the same time.

Barber is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail on a no bond status as he awaits extradition back to Georgia.
