Father arrested for murder of 6-week old baby

On June 10, 2024, at approximately 11:11AM, Melbourne Police Department patrol officers responded to a residence on Mount Carmel Lane, regarding a call-for-service where a 6-week-old male infant was not breathing.

Upon arrival, officers and paramedics attempted life-saving CPR. Ultimately paramedics transported the baby to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Due to the nature of the case, it was immediately assigned to detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division.

During the subsequent autopsy, investigators were provided evidence of acute and extensive trauma to the child that resulted in his death. The Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office deemed the case a homicide.

Through investigation by detectives, to include interviews with the child’s parents, probable cause was developed for the arrest of the child’s father, Edrick Lamar Davis. On June 20*, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Davis, arresting him without incident. Davis was charged with 1st-Degree Felony Murder of a Child and Aggravated Child Abuse. Davis was remanded to the Brevard County Jail Complex without bond.
