Fatal Crash on I-95 in North Brevard County Leaves One Dead After Semi-Truck Overturns and Catches Fire

MIMS, Fla. — A fatal crash involving a semi-truck shut down portions of Interstate 95 in northern Brevard County Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 2:25 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 just north of Deering Parkway near mile marker 232 in Mims.

According to investigators, the crash involved two vehicles: a semi-truck with a trailer and a 2004 Volvo truck. The sequence of events leading up to the collision remains under investigation.

FHP officials said that following the collision, the semi-truck overturned, struck the inside shoulder guardrail, and became engulfed in flames. The driver of the semi-truck, whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the Volvo truck were not injured and remained on scene cooperating with investigators.

The crash prompted significant traffic disruptions in the area. Authorities implemented a roadblock affecting all northbound lanes of I-95 as well as the inside southbound lane while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators began reconstructing the crash.

Troopers have not released additional details regarding what may have caused the collision. Officials say a media update will be provided once more information becomes available.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
