Australia is testing glow-in-the-dark roads to improve safety for night driving.How it works:The markings use photoluminescent paint that absorbs light during the day and releases it at night, making the road markings visible in the dark. Where it's being tested:The markings are being tested on a one-kilometer stretch of Metung Road in Victoria, Australia. The road was chosen because it lacks traditional lampposts. Why it's being tested:The markings are intended to improve visibility for pedestrians and vehicles, especially on roads with bends, intersections, or without street lighting. They could also be beneficial for boat-ramp users, wildlife, and people fleeing wildfires. Who's testing it:The markings are being tested by Tarmac Linemarking, OmniGrip, and Vic Roads. What's next:The Victorian Government Road Safety Program is assessing the cost-efficiency and safety benefits of the markings.
