Cocoa Beach Police Department Appoints Kris Kuehn as New Chief of Police

The Cocoa Beach Police Department officially appointed Kris Kuehn as Chief of Police on January 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone for a longtime member of the department and the Cocoa Beach community.

Chief Kuehn is a graduate of Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School and has been part of the local community for more than 27 years. He began his law enforcement career with the Cocoa Beach Police Department in 2005 and has steadily risen through the ranks over the past two decades.

During his tenure, Chief Kuehn has served in a wide range of leadership and operational roles, including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Major, and most recently Deputy Chief. His experience spans patrol operations, investigations, training, and departmental leadership.

Chief Kuehn holds a Bachelor of Science in Administration and a Master of Public Administration. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 292, a prestigious program that provides advanced training for law enforcement leaders from across the country and around the world.

Following his appointment, Chief Kuehn emphasized his commitment to community-focused policing and transparency.

“It is my honor and privilege to serve as your Chief of Police, representing the dedicated men and women committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our 11,389 residents and more than 2.5 million visitors each year,” Kuehn said. “As your Police Chief, I will lead with compassion and humility. Through transparency and mutual respect, the members of the Cocoa Beach Police Department will continue to protect and serve this community while building trust, fostering partnerships, and ensuring the safety of all who live, work, and visit our city.”

City officials and department members congratulated Chief Kuehn on his appointment, citing his deep roots in the community, extensive experience, and long-standing dedication to public service.

Chief Kuehn now assumes leadership of the department as it continues to serve both Cocoa Beach residents and the millions of visitors who travel to the city each year.
