The City of Cocoa has been awarded a $1,494,500 Assistance Program grant from the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) to fund Phase II of the Cocoa Waterfront Park Dock & Breakwater Project, which will redesign docking options at Cocoa Village and provide added protection from future storms. In November 2022, Hurricane Nicole destroyed the existing day slips at Lee Wenner Park, leaving boaters without a place to dock.

The awarded funds will support the construction costs to replace the damaged day slips and the installation of riprap revetment along the existing bulkhead to protect both the slips and shoreline from erosion and reduced wave action. A rock barrier will also be installed to shield the slips from future storm impacts.

These improvements will not only restore docking opportunities for boaters but will also create a stronger and more resilient waterfront system that is less likely to suffer damage during storms, reducing the need for repairs. The City of Cocoa remains committed to protecting the environment throughout this project by carefully planning to minimize environmental impacts while enhancing the park’s ability to withstand severe weather events.

With this grant, the City of Cocoa is taking an important step toward rebuilding and protecting its waterfront, ensuring a safer and more sustainable future for Lee Wenner Park and the community it serves. Project timelines for construction and completion will be determined at a later date.
