According to reporting from the Associated Press, “Not long before shots rang out, rally goers noticed a man climbing to the top of a roof of a nearby building and warned local law enforcement, according to two law enforcement officials.”

“One officer climbed to the roof and encountered Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder and Crooks quickly took a shot toward former President Donald Trump, and that’s when the U.S. Secret Service counter snipers shot him, said the officials who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.”

Many videos have been circulating on social media that show several civilians screaming at law enforcement that there was a man on the roof with a gun. The shooter can be clearly seen in several videos in a prone position on the roof just moments before opening fire from his AR-styled rifle.

Another video has recently surfaced that shows the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, featured in a Black Rock commercial just a few months ago. Founded in 1988, initially as an enterprise risk management and fixed income institutional asset manager, BlackRock is the world’s largest asset manager, with US$10 trillion in assets under management as of December 31, 2023.
