Arrest made in crash that killed beloved teacher and her friend last year

Police have arrested the driver that killed Rikki and Megan Grace on Oct. 18 by the water on Front Street near downtown Melbourne.

Melbourne authorities apprehended Robert Lueck on Thursday. Lueck is alleged to have operated his Ford pickup while impaired by alcohol and cannabis, driving recklessly with a suspended license and lacking vehicle insurance, according to law enforcement.


The incident, as per police reports, occurred on Front Street as Lueck was heading north. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veering onto the sidewalk and striking the two women.

Tragically, Rikki passed away on the night of the accident, while Megan succumbed to her injuries the following day, both having been hospitalized.


Lueck is now facing a range of charges, which include dual counts of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide, driving with a suspended license leading to fatalities, driving under the influence causing property damage or personal harm, DUI, and failure to uphold financial responsibility.
