Apartment Fire in Palm Bay Kills 2 Children Ages 10 and 5; Mother in Critical Condition

Palm Bay, FL – In the early hours of January 24, 2025, a devastating apartment fire in the 1600 block of Sunnybrook Lane claimed the lives of two children and left a community grieving. Palm Bay Fire Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 12:40 AM after receiving multiple emergency calls about a fire in a second-floor apartment.

Upon arrival, firefighters faced heavy flames that posed a significant threat to neighboring units. Thanks to their quick and aggressive response, crews successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to seven adjacent apartments. Additional assistance was provided by Melbourne and Malabar Fire Departments, Brevard County Fire Rescue, and the Palm Bay Police Department.

During the rescue operations, firefighters found three individuals trapped inside the burning unit. They managed to pull them out and administer immediate medical aid on-site. Tragically, a 10-year-old child was pronounced dead at the scene. A 5-year-old child and a 32-year-old adult were rushed to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Both were later transferred to Orlando Regional’s burn center for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, the 5-year-old succumbed to their injuries, while the adult remains in critical condition.

A 15-year-old resident managed to escape the fire uninjured and is currently staying with relatives.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of the blaze, which remains unknown at this time. An official report is pending.

This tragic event has deeply affected the community, and Palm Bay Fire Rescue has extended its condolences to the victims’ families.
